Help! My sailfin is looking very bad. He looks like he's starving. When I fed spirulina today, I think he took 1 bite. Then he stayed in the same spot. He is not expanding his fins. His tail looks like it has a small curve missing from it. Could this be tail/fin rot?

Fin and tail rot usually starts with puffy looking bubbles and or tattered looking edges like a old flag in the wind sort of. Are its Eyes clear ? color faded ?

Yesterday, I did not notice his eyes being cloudy, but his head didn't look right. Can't actually say what looked wrong with him. I just went to look at him and he is laying over in a cave. I thought I would put him in small tank by himself, but now I can not get to him. His chances are not looking very good.

That does suck! I lost all my shrimp about a year ago but don't have enough guts to get more. Not sure why they died but too scared to add more just in case the new additions die also.

I had a Powderblue to get sick last January I hit my tank hard with Maracyin.. Also keep that on hand as a first aid and use it ASAP when you see a bacterial problem.. I always keep it on hand. That and Doxicyllin

You know it has amazed me for yrs why so many feel that any antibiotic will kill the system ? hell i dip corals in antibiotic and once people get over themselves and start to use it then more will save money.. Did you see the pictures of the 180 Annick posted ?? I used the meds on that and in the one before when oddinium hit that tank.. Its totally safe and only a few misinformed semi wanna be R/C type experts think its unsafe But I did also until 1972 when a Local M.D customer taught me differently and it have used them every since with no effects on any animal s in my tanks at all. But thats me I seldom listen to experts (: I just had one to tell me I was flirting with disaster with levels of ca and DKH I was running Ca on average 500 to 600 and DKH at 13 to 15 depending on how the reactor is feeling that day LOL.. The shit you hear and the crap you can read in this hobby LOL

I think I am going to stay fishless for a while. I am thinking of not getting any more fish and just keep it as a coral tank.

Its perfectly O.K somewhere someone had the idea it would wipe out the bacteria LOL.. But the bacteria it works on is not what keeps fish happy but what makes them sick.. Like with any other animal when infected Hell I just did a experiment with a RTN'ing Acro yesterday I cut it up treated one set of the frags in iodine and then I brought 2 home dipped them in a new product called smelled like Lysol and these are rocking still today while all but one at the shop are totally white. Now I bet you if I sent you some of this juice to dip a coral in you'd never use it based on the ingredients and smell. Nor would many others .. Smells like the Lysol cleaner stuff and rubbing alcohol with a hint of antibacterial soap like a waterless hand cleaner . But thats how I and we learned in the old days before experts we tried things then that they write about now (: But no antibiotic I ever used harmed a reef tank none what so ever.. And I'd compare mine to anyones for coral quality and quantity and types.

Hi Mike: so sorry - that's really sad. You have such awesome corals, which I really totally don't, but I have a gang o' tangs who are fit and healthy, some of which are coming up on 5 years old, and I would be really upset if they croaked. Now I just have to figure out how to keep lps.
I hope yours all stay healthy.
