Will my RODI unit pull copper out of the water ?

My tank appears fine with the exception of a colony of Green-Star polyps retreating (no signs of die off, just that its retreating.....like my hair line  Undecided  )

Anywho - I been getting blue/green strains in my shower so I called Culligan (they put in the water system in my house).  They said my Neutralizer is probably in need of filling and that the stains are copper from my decaying pipes...nice, real nice.  I don't want to waste the money on a test kit if the RODI is going to pull it out anyway.

interesting post. You see my post in this same section about test kits??? The reason I want to test my tank for copper is because my polyps haven't grown, kinda bleached out. My yellow polyps are gone as well as my mushrooms...I didn't think anything would kill those suckers. I'm just curious if I have some copper in my tank somehow.

Looks like we had the same thought.  Clive said the RODI should be pulling it out, so I am not sure that I will be buying a copper test kit.  I suppose I would/could bring a water sample to a lfs and have them test for it.

Unfortunately the LFS around here suck! They look like they don't know what they are doing. That has been my biggest problem, trying to decide what to test for then buying the right test kit. This is what my tank looks like right now. The "reddish" spots are not coraline.

The polyps are not as big as they use to be and some of the polyps you will notice in the pic just have the base not the "umbrella". They look like little stubs (one between the two complete polyps and the Green Stars and 3-4 more to the left of the picture). The Green Stars are barely hanging on and you can see how small they are.

John its a slight covering of algae or sedimient on them. Take a soft tooth brush and clean them off might still take a few days for them to respond to the cleaning.. Might want to add a tad more water flow at them. But the R/O DI is taking the metals from the water. But I like to run copperfafe anyways kent and seachem both make a product to remove metals from the water I like them for removal of elements that may build up.

Hey Crimson Ghost I made a mistake and ordered two Copper test kits!!!  ata8  If you want the extra one I'll ship it to you free of charge...if not it will just stay here and probably go bad if they do. Send me your address to los_montys@comcast.net and I'll send it to you if you want it. 028

You guys running a good Phosphate media in a reactor or atleats passively in the system somewhere ? Or adding a slight amount of elements if you are not doing water changes? I prefer the latter water changing sucks (: Just a thought. Make sure all the parameters are up to snuff NO2'sNO'3's PO4's and add some base elemental supplement And clean the green starts off

Yeah I put Phosguard in the sump along with the chemipure and Purigen. When you say "add some base elemental supplement" do you mean Kent Essentials??

All the rest of the parameters seem to be good.
