hey you all, I'm back!! Still working on getting my tank back to the way it was. Recently ordered some test kits but have used two internet companies with bad results. The first one never called or e-mailed back after I ordered, the 2 nd I'm still waiting for my test kits! You all still recommending Salifert Test Kits? What company you using, Fish Supply???

Stay away from FishSupply if you can - jack left and the people left are rude !
I orer from Marine Depot since they are reliable and stand behind their product (slightly elevated pricing, but worth it for the reliability imo)

I have been ordering all my stuff from That Pet Place for at least 10 years now and I have never had a problem with them. http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/index.webAs for Salifert it really is all about what works best for you. I have found The Red Sea test for CA, Tropic Marin for Alk, and Salifert for Mg works best for me. They take the guess work out of trying to match shades of blue or green.

What about kits for Iodine and Copper?
I am just curious if my tank has any copper so I want to test for it. Still haven't figured why it hasn't taken off so I want to do a couple of different tests.

Look at this and use it save the test kit money.. If you need it then why waste money on a kit if you don't need it ? its use will not harm anything and will remover excess elemental metals http://www.petsolutions.com/Toxic+Metal+Sponge-I-51900019-I-C-39-C-.aspx

Hey that will work.
I'm just curious what the heck it is that is making my tank look the way it is. I would like to know for sure what it is.
Probably invest in that product, it can't hurt I'm thinking.

I posted some pictures of my tank in Crimson Ghosts Post under "copper". It's in the Chemistry forum. I posted this problem a while back in the old Fishy Frolics but it has not improved. The polyps are not as big as they use to be and some of the polyps you will notice in the pictures on the other post just have the base not the "umbrella". They look like little stubs (one between the two complete polyps and the Green Stars and 3-4 more to the left of the picture). The Green Stars are barely hanging on and you can see how small they are.
It all started around the end of 2005 when I noticed I needed less and less Mg in the tank. Now I haven't added Epsom Salts in months cuz it does seem to move when tested. I have used three different test and they all say the same. Alk is doing the same, I've added less and less and now it just seems to stay around 12 for awhile.
Intially my shrimp all died at once, I was thinking it was because of my high Alk at the time. The Coralline then slowly disappeared. The polyps shrunk down, mushrooms shrunk down and disappeared. Yellow Polyps the same. Green stars almost gone (if you look at the picture in the orther post you can see what is left of the Green Stars).
I still haven't figured out what is causing the tank to "not thrive". I kinda of gave up on the tank for awhile and even put it up for sale late last year, but got no takers. So I decided that I'm going to start testing for everything and see if I can figure what is wrong.
My first thought was possibly copper (that is why I was reading Crimson Ghost's posting about Copper).
I am using R/O water for several years and just changed the filters the other day.
It has to be something, just can't figure out what it is.

Yeah that was one to things that I added to the tank when the problems started...thanks to you all. Things just haven't returned to normal after I added the probe.

Ya know - I dropped my grounding probe in the tank and forgot all about it (out of sight out of mind). Started having troubles in the tank and after inspecting everything I discovered that the probe was 100% purple....it needed a steel-wool workout and things got back to normal real quick :-)

(out of sight out of mind). Hmmm, I think I better check the probe. I haven't looked at it in awhile.
