Thought I ought to say hi real quick and give a brief introduction.  First off may I say I love this icon  ^ga  Ok now that we're past that I'll say that I'm currently in the process of designing and building my first saltwater tank.  It's going to be a 55 gallon display with sump and fuge hidden in the stand.  The Tangmeister has been a huge help already, I'm not sure he realized what he was getting himself into when he replied to my first email  #243

As far as other stuff about me I'm a wildlife biologist located in Nebraska, which means I have a fairly strong background biologically but basically zero actual experience with marine life.  I did spend a few days at Myrtle Beach this fall, but that is the only time I have been to the ocean since I was old enough to remember it.

So thanks in advance to all of you I'll get advice from in the future, and thanks for letting me join your little club here.  xz11

Hello Matt and welcome.  Good to have you aboard ! If you listen to Roger from the get-go and avoid all the "experts" out there you will end up with a wonderful tank and a whole lot of extra cash in your pocket.  I wish you the best !  Post pictures as you go !!

Hi Matt, welcome!

How was Myrtle Beach? I haven't been back there since the late 70's. Wonder if my favorite pub is still there. It was next to the big wooden roller coaster, called the Gaslight Tavern.

I never noticed that dancing banana ROFLMA.

Make sure you take alot of pictures as you go along.

Myrtle was great, I'm not much of a crowd person so going in the fall was great for me.  Plus even though it was only about 60 for a high it was -8 here when I flew out so it still seemed plenty warm to me Grin  In the middle of the day there were a handful of other people at the beach, but for the most part it was empty.  Took a stroll about two miles up at sunrise and only saw maybe 6 other folks in the whole trip up and back.  Stayed at Grande Shores, oceanfront room for $60/night, heck I can't get a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Omaha for that rate.

Lots of the heavy touristy places were closed was the only downside, but that was more than made up for by the lack of tourists so it worked out well.  Ate at the giant crab, spent several hours at the aquarium, and just had an overall great time and relaxing weekend including lying in bed with the heater on and the sliding door open listening to the waves roll in,

Ok, I think I got off topic enough there, thanks again for all the help I've already received on this and 3reef and I'm sure I'll have about a million more questions as we go.

Welcome Matt!  Glad to see you on board!

As for Myrtle Beach, I stayed there for a week several years ago and really enjoyed it.  Roger, on the other hand, is not a fan so chances are, I won't ever be going back :)

Unless you have been to Nags head then you can't understand why M.beach is not that great. Nags head on the other hand is so over grown in the last 15 yrs I just sake my head . Hell Va. Beach is like Myrtle Beach in my opinion and last time I ws in Nags head I saw more N.J and Ct. and N.Y and Mass plates then N.C and or Va plates. But atleast they did not have 4x4's so where I go was still un crowded

Never been but I have seen the Carabiean many times so it is time to go see some nice country side. I am really excited, want to ride the scooter but Mommy said no.  Angry  Most of my friends that have road up say that you will need new tires once you get there because of the chip and seal roads in Canada eat your tires.

Man their roads are like sand paper and they drive like crazy people LOL right on your ass and they even unnerve me a bit. Its seldom I ever get passed and hold anyone up ! But on average I run 15 to 20 over any limit and I'm just tooling along toking on a number and whoosh I have semis blasting pass me Like I was in reverse. Look down and the speed control is  working and damn I'm like running 85 /90 MPH Not KPH LOL And the Cars where even faster.. No way in hell I'd ever scooter up there. And they have craters not potholes, Plus skeeters (: and they have to drink early/fast and often short growing season  ^160 Back simba

Well we are flying into Vancouver and spending the night to save a bunch on air fair so I ask Jason McKenzie if we could stop by and he said that would be great. Like to see what a well established tank looks like.
