OK. so I finally have a grow out tank!!! woo ho finally a place to dump all the stuff I break of and frag to sell sell sell.. (hopefully) My question is how does everyone else have theirs setup. is is plumbed into their main display? seperate? what lighting do you have?

I have setup a 12g nano cube with stock pump and 24 watt pc light. I want to eventually upgrade this, but cant now (barely got this by the boss). I will get a larger maxi 1400 I think if I can find a used one, and will keep it barebottom for now. it is a seperate tank at this point with new water. I dont have any of the bio filtration that came with it in the tank at this point as for the next few days there will only be some frags in it. I will toss some of my extra rocks in for the time being, but then just Frags. do I need to do anything special to this? I plan on then taking this water plus more premade to the swap for selling purposes. this tank will also be my selling tank while at the swap.

I have kept tanks for years and have a very successful 75 reef, but it has been 7 years since I setup a tank and have never done a frag tank. I do eventually want it to get plumbed into my main system, but dont think that will happen. it will likely end up as the munchkins tank goin full reef.

The shallower the better for light penetration and faster more swirling flows to stimulate better growth thats all I ever found that was different maybe higher water parameters if its a isolated system.. to stimuilate growth thats really want we want then. And as strong of light as you can supply

Roger, thanks for the reply. as it stands now, I will likely be taking the tank to work because the stnad wobbles a little bit and it is sorta in the way. I took the filter media that came with it (some little tubes in a mesh baggie) and placed in my big sump for a few days. left the tank all week long running witha piece of rock with some xenai attached and fwiw, the water is crystal clear and looks awesome. Xenia looks good, so I think I am going ot add another rock or two and take it to the office and get some of those tiny nano fish like Catalina gobies and such and just have a litle mini reef at work.

purple tile We have a little Nano now (: the boss lady wanted one and we had one at work that was always setting on my little 2 ft ladder stool thing LOL I brought on home  But it has all the filtration built into it. I need to build a set of LEDs for it as the junk P/C light that came with it died in less then a yr. If I can go a few months with out breaking something LOL  But if you have room try one of the little self contained mini filters I'll get the name for you I can't recall it off hand.  I always keep my sump full of base rock and old sponges just in case I or someone has an emergency. We have a Bio Cube I think its called.
